Ophelia after Hamlet

Experimental Theatre

Triptic Ophelia after Hamlet a performance based on William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”.

We center our research on the disqualifying position of women in the Elizabethan society. Relegated, dehumanized, objectified and simply described as “something, which is not a man”

Ophelia is an orphan. She lost her place as a daughter and sister. She is rejected by her lover, lost its place as a wife. Without one or the other there is no place for her in society. She is left with no choice, except madness and death.

We reflect on these assumptions while we accept the distance separating us from the Elizabethan society.

Ophelia after Hamlet is a diatribe, in which an “under water Ophelia” lectures a wilderness, pathetic, almost standing on the sidelines, Hamlet who only seeks to mitigate his actions and needs, with immediate pleasure, takes distance from worlds pain and reality. Surrounded by his horror phantasms, he seems like a helpless spectator in front of the tube, zapping through the channels.

In Ophelia after Hamlet, While Shakespeare’s Hamlet seeks to avenge the death of his father – After Ophelia Hamlet, seeks to clarify the death of his mother, his sisters, of itself, looking for a reference, a source of violence, murder, dismemberment and oblivion hundreds of Ophelia´s missing in recent years in Mexico and all Latin America.

The text is based in a research about “The glass- manufactory and Child labour”
For many generations the glass- making industry has being a large employer of child labor. Now a days, the word start to assume the real proportion of the problem, Children may be crippled physically by being forced to work too early in life, found that more than hight  per cent of working children were exposed to chemical and biological hazards, and that  experience serious injuries or illnesses.

In its most extreme forms, child labour involves children being enslaved, separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and illnesses and/or left to fend for themselves and in some cases die on very early age.
